The straw has a nice resistance that helps my 9-month-old pace himself, and the cup is perfectly sized for little hands to hold on their own. It took about a week of practice, but now he drinks water happily without me having to tilt it for him.

My 18-month-old finally figured out the straw on the third try, and I love that the cup is weighted so it doesn't tip over. The soft silicone straw is gentle on her gums, making practice much less fussy.
